Crime Rate and Clearances
Occasionally, I get asked how safe we are in Hernando County. I am happy to report that in , the Crime Rate was at the lowest it has been in at least decades. Unless you engage in a high risk lifestyle (illegal activity or abusive relationship), your chance of being a victim of a crime (particularly a violent crime) is exceptionally small. Your chance of being a victim of a non-violent crime is also much lower than it has been in several decades, particularly if you lock your car doors and bring in valuables at night (particularly guns).
Just as important, the Clearance Rates (percentage of those crimes we solve) are much higher than the state average. We have some of the best investigators and support personnel in the county!!

They have years of crime statistics for every agency in the state (Crime rates and clearances are in last two columns - be sure to scroll down to the stats for the Hernando County Sheriff's Office).
